PALS

PALS (PATIENT ADVICE AND LIAISON SERVICE)

PALS is about making sure that as a patient, relative or carer you have someone to turn to for on the spot help, advice and information. Your first point of contact will usually be front line staff such as a nurse, receptionist or therapist who all have a vital role in helping you find your way around the NHS. However, if front line staff are not able to resolve your issues on the spot you can ask to speak to any member of PALS.

WHO TO CONTACT?

If you have a query or concern you can, in the first instance, speak to any member of NHS staff. However, the PALS team in each NHS organisation locally has its own PALS worker who can be contacted if:

  • You prefer not to speak to a member of the front line staff
  • Your issues are complex and cannot be resolved “on the spot”
  • Your issues involve more than one NHS organisation or other agency

HOW TO CONTACT PALS

Each NHS organisation locally has its own PALS worker. Their numbers are: Nottingham City Hospital 0800 052 1195
Queens Medical Centre 0800 183 0204
East Midlands Ambulance Service 0115 919 3439
Nottinghamshire Healthcare 0115 955 5420
All other health services 0115 912 3336

WHAT IF I WANT TO MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT?

PALS is about resolving issues on the spot but if you wish to make a formal complaint you still have the right to do so. PALS will point you in the right direction for that process.
